Things are going well on the Italian front - Bologna vs Inter Milan

Erdem Cürgen 14 October 2026

Inter, the reigning Italian Serie A champions, are once again the clear favourites this season. Having dropped points only in their away match against Roma over the past six weeks, the blue-and-blacks have found themselves in a much more comfortable position following consecutive slip-ups by Milan, Roma and Como - all of whom are far more ambitious than they were last season. With Napoli failing to make a good start to the season and Juventus reeling from the injury to their star player Kenan Yıldız, the only team currently able to keep up with Chivu's side in terms of points is the capital's blue-and-white side, Lazio. The ongoing tension between the chairman and the fans at Lazio, coupled with the fact that they are playing their home matches in front of empty stands, is fuelling speculation about how much longer they can stay in the race. Whilst things are going extremely well domestically for the Milan side, they have not found the success they hoped for in the Champions League. After being surprisingly knocked out in the play-off round last season, losing both legs to Bodo Glimt, Inter have yet to pick up a point this season, having lost their first two matches - 2-1 away to Real Madrid and 4-3 at the Giuseppe Meazza against Club Brugge. We are curious to see how Inter, who have shown two very different faces at home and away, will fare in their away match against Bologna on Saturday evening.

Bologna finally secured a win

Having managed just one point in their first four matches of the season under Domenico Tedesco, Bologna made the earliest managerial change of the season - following Fiorentina's parting of ways with Fabio Grosso after the third matchweek - by parting ways with Tedesco. Having picked up four points from their two matches following the sacking, the blue-and-reds finally tasted victory last week with a win away at Lecce. Whilst the draw against Torino and the win over Lecce represent a good start for Raffaele Palladino, nothing would be better than a victory against the league's biggest favourites to raise the bar even higher.

Although Inter appear to be the clear favourites, should the blue-and-blacks stumble, we could witness a title race involving five or six teams in Italy. Having severely jeopardised their chances of a top-eight finish with two defeats in the Champions League, Inter look to be the clear favourites for next week's match against Shakhtar Donetsk, where they are desperate for three points. The fact that away trips between Champions League fixtures always carry a certain risk suggests we are in for a closely contested match on Saturday evening.
